Warba City Council Meeting 

April 09, 2007

 

The Warba city council meeting was called to order by Mayor Don Hawk at 6:30 pm.  The pledge of allegiance was said.  Council members Pat Gilsvik, Jordan Richardson and Cheri Dombrovski were present as well as Treasurer, Tami Elich.  Niki Mistelske was absent.  Minutes were discussed.  A motion was made by Pat,   seconded by Cheri to accept.  Approved 4-0.  Treasurer’s report was read.  A motion by Cheri,  seconded by Pat to accept the treasurer’s report.  Approved 4-0.  Bills were read.  A motion by Don, seconded by Pat to pay the bills.  Approved 4-0.  

 

OPEN DISCUSSION:     Kraig Dibb, Chair of Northern Lights Charter School, was present to update the City of Warba on the schools progress in preparing to negotiate on the City lots currently up for sale.  Kraig stated Lease Aid discussions are currently underway which may be helpful to NLCS for leasing the lots until purchase can be completed.  Amy Marrier will set up a meeting for the purchase July 2008.   Christina Clark, the City of Warba’s investment agent for Edward Jones, advised a change in the City’s checking account to receive a better interest rate and advised on investments for $10,000.  Don and Tami will explore various checking account options.  John Licke appeared before the board to present his bid for legal representation of the City.  Pat made a motion to retain John Licke as the City of Warba’s attorney, seconded by Jordan.    

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

        

Utility:  Ken said he was contacted by the company contracted to clean the water tower.  They will be available to do the cleaning in May.  The exact date of the cleaning will be posted at the Warba Post Office and Community Center as soon as it is known.  It was reported there is a sink hole by the quanset.  An examination of the sink hole will be done to determine the extent of the problem and who is responsible for the repair.                     

 

Community Center:  Nothing to report at this time.  

 

Recreation:  Nothing to report at this time.    

 

Fire:  The next meeting will be held April 21. 

 

Cemetery:   Nothing to report at this time.

Old Business:  Discussion was held regarding the road maintenance contract with Itasca County.  The general feeling is that Warba has a greater need for some road repair and maintenance than Calcium chloride treatment to contain dust.  Ken, Jordan, Kelly and Don will do a drive around assessment after the frost is out and make recommendations to the City Council.  The road maintenance contract with Itasca County will remain the same as in previous years for once a month blading.
