Warba City Council Meeting
June 12, 2006
The Warba city council meeting was called to order at 6:30 pm. The pledge of allegiance was read. All members were present except Dana Marrier and Don Hawk. Minutes were discussed and a motion was made by Niki Mistelske, Seconded by Ellen Coffel to accept the minutes. Approved 3-0. Treasurer’s report was read. A motion by Ellen Coffel Seconded by Niki Mistelske to accept the treasurer’s report. Approved 3-0. Bills were read and a motion by Niki Mistelske, Seconded by Ellen Coffel to pay the bills. Approved 3-0.
UTILITY: No burning has been done at this point around the sewer ponds. Mayor Marrier had a discussion with some of the local resident’s regarding the tornado siren. The residents mentioned a good point regarding the fact that if the power were to go out such as it did with the last severe storm, how would the siren work? The discussion was tabled until the July meeting. Becky McCauley received a call from John Reicert regarding the water usage report. Brian Borgman will talk with Tim Satrang about the report. When the power went out with the last major storm on Memorial Weekend the lift station had to be pumped by Bunes.
ZONING: The Koran’s will not be purchasing the apartment building at this time. Niki Mistelske reported that she has completed the proposed Zoning material and made copies for all residents involved including Julie Kennedy. The zoning committee will be meeting prior any actual changes that may be made by council at this point.
COMMUNITY CENTER: Amy Marrier and Ellen Coffel discussed the trading of the lighter weight tables with the heavier tables. Three was the number that Ellen and Amy discussed. Ellen Coffel made a motion to trade with the school 3 of our brown heavy tables for 3 light white tables. Niki Mistelske seconded the motion approved 3-0. The estimate came in at $300 from Rodney Lentz to wax the floors however Rodney needed help moving the furniture. Council asked Rodney to resubmit a bid with the labor of furniture moving included. Ellen Coffel will contact Rodney.
RECREATION: Becky McCauley reported that she attended the recreation meeting and they approved up to $600 towards the dugouts. The Twin’s grants that Becky McCauley mentioned at the last meeting are closed for the 2006 year.
FIRE: The fire department hooked up a generator for Fred Bohn so he had oxygen during the power outage from the storm.
CEMETERY: Volunteers planted flowers around the flagpole, raked, helped with odd jobs, and more. Thanks to all for their help and support.
OTHER: Mayor Marrier received a complaint regarding Steve Vercellino forbidding children to play on the 20’ City Alley in between his home and the home Bill Figgens purchased. Dana Marrier did attempt to remedy the situation in person but was unable to do so. A letter was then issued to Steve regarding the status of the alley and that it was to be allowed use by any citizen whom wished to use it.
CORRESPONDENCE: The State Auditors Office sent a letter regarding needing additional information on year end. Amy Marrier has already made a call to Wendy and is working with her. LMC sent a letter regarding our videotape library, Admin Minnesota sent a letter regarding estimates on population and households, the Itasca County Health and Human Services sent a letter regarding emergency preparedness, Gopher State One Call sent a letter regarding a locate map and asked the City to update it if it needed changes. Itasca County Sheriff’s Department sent a Resolution on emergency prepardness and hazard mitigation planning that was tabled until the July meeting, Amy Marrier requested via fax that the faxed Friday LMC updates stop faxing, a Thank You was received from Cathy and Bill Figgens on the use of the Community Center for the funeral of Marion Figgens, Bill’s mother, GIS sent a summary of the cities yearly premium and a binder for this fiscal year, Itasca County sent a letter regarding a list of Noxious weeds found in Itasca County, a letter was received from LMC inviting the city to the annual conference and marketplace to be held in St. Cloud this year, a notice was sent from Minnesota revenue regarding 2005 Fire Equipment Certification for State Fire Aid Payable in 2006.
OLD BUSINESS: The tires were removed from the open visible area at the tire shop. Ellen Coffel mentioned that Pat Beers was working hard on the city sign and showed some pictures of the work in progress. The questionable trees were removed from the property near the Richardson’s. We should be getting the wireless internet soon, Dana Marrier will report at the next council meeting.
NEW BUSINESS: Cathy Figgens mentioned that she wondered about the sign for the cemetery. Dana Marrier was volunteered to look into this sign. There were several complaints received regarding the tire shop owner for the noise of his vehicle. The sheriff’s department was notified and a complaint filed.
