Warba City Council Meeting 

July 11, 2005

 

The Warba city council meeting was called to order at 6:30 pm.  The pledge of allegiance was read.  All members were present.  Minutes were discussed and a motion was made by Ellen Coffel, seconded by Jason Foley.  Approved 5-0.  Treasurer’s report was read.  A motion by Niki Mistelske, seconded by Amy Marrier to accept the treasurer’s report.  Approved 5-0.  Bills were read and a motion by Niki Mistelske, seconded by Ellen Coffel to pay the bills.  Approved 5-0.  At 6:47 p.m. Jason Foley announced that he was resigning from the council as he was moving out of area, Jason Foley also excused himself from the meeting for the evening.

 

UTILITY:  Ken Seibert reported that the siren did work this month.  The sewer ponds were mowed, but the cattails didn’t get sprayed, they will be sprayed in the next couple of weeks.  The Consumer Confidence Report was posted at the Post Office.  The muskrat population in the sewer ponds is slowly going down as they have captured a few in past months.  

 

ZONING:  Jason Foley resigned and this position needs to be reassigned.    

 

COMMUNITY CENTER:  A friendly reminder to all that National Night Out is the first Tuesday of August.  August 2nd come out and join your neighbors for a fun filled evening at the community center. 

 

RECREATION:  Jason Foley resigned and this position needs to be reassigned.

 

FIRE:  There will be a meeting soon.

 

CEMETERY:  The next meeting will be held October 27th at 6:00 p.m.    

 

OTHER:  The Northern Lights Community School came to the meeting and proposed that the city purchase the old elementary school and lease it to them for their charter school.  Many excellent questions surfaced and were directed to the Charter School members.  A motion was made by Niki Mistelske to hold a Public Hearing followed by a Special Meeting on Thursday, July 21 at 6:30 p.m., seconded by Ellen Coffel.  Approved 4-0.  Mayor Marrier requested that Amy Marrier contact the City Attorney, Itasca County Redevelopment, the League of Minnesota Cities, Grand Rapids State Bank, and Grand Rapids Insurance and ask them to have a representative come on behalf of the City of Warba for the meeting on July 21. 

 

CORRESPONDENCE:  The city received a letter from Cap-Trico with a $19.16 credit, a letter was received from LMC regarding a survey to be completed on the LMC web site on Salaries, Itasca County sent a property taxation statement for review, First Call for Help sent on a mini-brochure on drug awareness, the Grand Rapids library sent a bulletin on a presentation they will be holding Tuesday, June 21 regarding the Mississippi, MPAAT sent a flyer on tobacco use, the LMC sent a letter on LMC dues and the past increase information and they sent a check to the city in the amount of $65 on a premium return, Myrna’s custom bridal & sewing sent a letter to the city, and Admin MN sent a letter regarding estimates of city populations.  

 

OLD BUSINESS:  None

 

NEW BUSINESS:  Niki Mistelske asked that council review a handout that she looked into regarding Brownfields.  Brownfields are polluted land that is being cleaned up and redeveloped.  Niki explained that there were grants available to help eliminate polluted areas and give them back to the communities. 

 

A motion was made by Niki Mistelske to adjourn the meeting seconded by Ellen Coffel.  Approved 4-0.
