Warba City Council Meeting
April 11, 2005
The Warba city council meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. The pledge of allegiance was read. All members were present. Minutes were discussed and a motion was made by Ellen Coffel seconded by Niki Mistelske, approved 5-0. Treasurer’s report was read. A motion was made by Amy Marrier seconded by Ellen Coffel to accept the treasurer’s report. Approved 5-0. Bills were read and a motion by Ellen Coffel Seconded by Dana Marrier to pay the bills. Approved 5-0. Jason Foley excused himself from the meeting at approximately 7:00 p.m.
Utility: The severe weather siren did not work this month. The Christmas decorations were removed. The sidewalks were cleaned off. The storm shelter is now open. Ken Siebert showed an example of some of the materials that were found plugging up the sewer system. There were rags, large pieces of plastic and things that should not be going down the sewer system, they should be thrown in the garbage can.
Zoning: Jason Foley will reported that there is a meeting 4/13/05.
Community Center: Jennifer Balzum was hired permanently to clean the Warba Community Center. The city had an overwhelming 25 plus calls enquiring about the
cleaning position. The Community Center rates were reviewed and Ellen Coffel made a motion to accept the new rental rates and Amy Marrier seconded it. Approved 4-0.
Recreation: Amy Marrier will discuss the Lake County Power bill getting mailed to Robin Heinle with the new postmaster.
Fire: Meeting March 15, 2005. Next year there will be taxes filed for the fireman. The meetings will now be smoke free at the fire hall.
Cemetery: The next meeting will be April 25, at 4:00 p.m.
Other: The new phone number for the city/community center is 218-492-4033. Niki Mistelske discussed the food shelf annual donation and that we the City of Warba have to start a contract for services with the food shelf to service citizens in the community.
Correspondence: Water Confidence Report was received, a breakdown of LMC insurance was received, and additional requested insurance information was received from Grand Rapids Insurance, a letter was received from First Call for Help asking for Volunteers, a letter was received from Minnesota Help and a requested to have a form filled out, a letter was received from Itasca County Highway Dept. on their 5 year plan, and LMC sent out a 2005 State of the Cities report.
Old Business: Niki Mistelske made a motion to accept the road maintenance contract and Ellen Coffel seconded it. Approved 4-0.
New Business: April 30, 10:00 a.m. the Shallow Sand Lake Association will be presenting their feasibility study at the Feeley town hall. Dana Marrier will be attending the meeting. Dana Marrier has been working on a street light for the corner of Hwy 2 and Shallow Lake Road. This should be installed by the May 2005 meeting. Ellen Coffel was contacted by a teacher at the high school stating that they are attempting purchasing the school to make it into a charter school. Ellen Coffel is meeting this group on Friday to discuss things further.
A motion was made by Ellen Coffel to adjourn the meeting seconded by Niki Mistelske. Approved 4-0.
