Warba City Council Meeting 

December 13, 2004


The Warba city council meeting was called to order at 6:30 pm. The pledge of allegiance was read.  One Council Member absent
Ellen Coffel. Minutes were discussed and a motion was made by Doug Mericle, seconded by Becky McCauley. Approved 4-0. Treasurer’s report was read. A motion by Amy Marrier, seconded by Doug Mericle to accept the treasurer’s report. Approved 4-0. Bills were read and a motion by Dana Marrier, seconded by Doug Mericle to pay the bills. Approved 4-0. 

Utility: Ken Seibert reported that the streetlights have been completely repaired. Ken Seibert also reported that the severe weather siren is still not working but they have one other solution that might fix it, so they are going to give it a try. The water pumps and meters are seemingly working well and the heaters have been turned on for the winter. Jerry Carey believes he caught most of the muskrats that were causing problems on the Felix Road. 

Zoning: There is no zoning to report. The next meeting will be in January. 

Community Center: There will be a New Year’s Party on New Years for all of the community to attend on New Years Eve at the Community Center. 

Recreation: The rink has been flooded. Dana Marrier reported that he had attended the last recreation meeting. At the last council meeting the council decided that Recreation would run all community parties. Robin Heinle from Feeley Township felt their council would not be in favor of the joint Recreation Department running community parties.

Fire: Meeting scheduled for January.

Cemetery: Meeting scheduled for February 24, 2005.

Other: Dana Marrier mentioned that the arrowhead regional development commission asked for nominations for representatives serving communities under 10,000 in Itasca County. 

Correspondence: Christmas cards sent by vendors were shared with council. A letter was received from Rural Development pertaining to program information that may benefit our city, Children’s 1st Blandin granted a check and it was disbursed to Gina Saric to run the New Year’s Eve Party, a credit from unemployment for $6.75 was received, a letter from Minnesota Pollution Control regarding a permit expiration in July was received, the cities annual noxious weed control report was received and will be filled out by Ken Seibert, LMC sent the fiscal conditions survey, the Minnesota Department of Commerce sent a notice, Infinity Graphix sent an updated quote regarding the lettering on the Community Center, LMC sent the insurance coverage changes for 2005, a letter was received from a student requesting information on the history of Warba, a report of outstanding indebtedness was received and will be filled out by Amy Marrier, Itasca County sent out the cities property tax statement, a notice was received regarding the elected official leadership conference, and a letter from Itasca County was received regarding Appeal and Equalization training.

Old Business: There was a meeting cancellation for Flex Steel whom was interested in the cities JOBZ program. Amy Marrier reviewed the ordinance as requested from the ordinance book on nuisance animals in regards to the November meeting. Council discussed the short payment from Robinson Computer Services. 

New Business: Doug Mericle requested that the intersections in Warba that approach highway 2 need to be sanded better. Doug Mericle is going to discuss this with Kelly McCauley. 

A motion was made by Doug Mericle to adjourn the meeting seconded by Amy Marrier. Approved 4-0.
