Warba City Council Meeting
February 9, 2004
The Warba City Council Meeting was called to order at
6:30 p.m. The pledge of allegiance was read. Members present: Lois Holmes, Ellen Coffel, Becky McCauley, Dana Marrier and Amy Marrier. Members absent:
Doug Mericle. Ellen Coffel made a motion to accept the minutes and Dana Marrier seconded it. Approved 4-0. Treasurer’s report was read and Amy Marrier made a motion to accept and Becky McCauley seconded it. Approved 4-0. Outstanding bills were read as well as payroll. Becky McCauley made a motion to pay the bills and Ellen Coffel seconded it. Approved 4-0.
Utility: The old dumpsite is not contaminated as per Terry Greenside. Information provided by Doug Mericle. Ken Siebert is going to pick up a volute for the lift station as the current one has worn out.
Community Center: Dana explained the discussion he had with the foot care nurse. The nurse asked us to turn the heat up prior to her arrival dates. Dana Marrier discussed having the music people (Bob Bartz) have a key for the community center, stamped do not duplicate. Dana Marrier discussed floor waxing and buffing ideas that Steve Herring mentioned.
Recreation: Nothing to report
Fire: Ellen Coffel reported that the fireboard was unreceptive to the City of Warba’s ideas for revisal of fire related agreements. Ellen mentioned that we needed to change our yearly rate to be fair according to population. March 25th there will be a meeting with three representatives from Warba, Feeley, and Sago to discuss the fire contractual agreement. Dana Marrier put together some changes deemed necessary for Warba to agree and sign the contract and he discussed these items. Dana reviewed many interesting points in the current written contract with the Fire Department. Population/Tax Evaluation
Cemetery: Still no fill for Ken Seibert’s position. The next Cemetery meeting is February 19, 2004.
Other: Becky McCauley discussed the fact that the Sheriff called her and asked her to change out the lettering on the signs so you could read them. Kelly McCauley was contacted and he said he would take care of the signs. The Sheriff wanted 4” high lettering. Becky McCauley discussed the fact that Ted Anderson called regarding writing an article of history of Warba.
Correspondence: Dana Marrier has been talking with Pat Malley from Superior Broadband and they have a direct line of sight with our Water Tower. Pat Malley inquired about possibly renting a space on the Water Tower. Dana is going to invite him to a council meeting to discuss this idea further. Dana Marrier will be attending the
JobZ tax free zone on Thursday February 12 in Eveleth. Dana Marrier discussed some of the topics of the meeting he will be attending. Dana Marrier discussed the Minnesota Deferred Compensation Plan that all city employees are eligible for. Dana Marrier discussed his letter on, “The City of Warba 2004 State of the City Address.
~KARR Tuckpointing offered the city a free inspection of any masonry building and Ken Seibert will call to have them look at a building.
~The city received water meter pricing information as requested from RLK Engineering.
~The Municipal clerks and Finance officers Association requested that the City Clerk attend a meeting on Microsoft Access for $20. Amy Marrier was given permission to attend.
~A letter was received concerning the deadline for placing projects on the drinking water revolving fund project.
~A letter was received from Liesch Engineering explaining the services they offer.
Old Business: The city received a bill from Kent Nyberg regarding the Peterson Gate/City Road. The city received a letter from Iverson Reuvers regarding Terry Peterson.
New Business: The next Zoning meeting is February 20, 2004 at the Community Center. Lois Holmes received a letter from Vitela Johnson asking for a discount on her water bill. The Council agreed that unless she wants her water turned off and pay a disconnect and reconnect fee, that the monthly rates stay the same whether in use or not.
Dana Marrier entertained a motion to adjourn and Becky McCauley made the motion with Ellen Coffel seconding it.
