Warba City Council Meeting Minutes

October 16th, 2001 

 

The Warba City Council met at 6:30 p.m.  The meeting opened with the pledge of allegiance.  Present: Darlene Adolfs, Lois Holmes, Becky McCauley, Doug Mericle, Ellen Coffel, Absent Kelly McCauley.  Jerry, Ken and Brian attended.  Guests: F. Fairchild, Pat Gilsvik, V. Johnson, Helen Sutherland, Bob King.  

 

Call to order by Darlene acting Mayor.  Minutes of the September meeting were read.  Ellen moved to accept the minutes, seconded by Becky approved. Treasurers report was given by Lois, a motion by Becky, seconded by Doug to accept, approved.  Outstanding bills were presented.  A motion by Doug, seconded by Ellen to pay bills, approved.  

 

Committee Reports:  

Community Center:  Fire Department will plan on a New Years Eve party.  Flu shots will be available November 16th.  Building Quality Communities will hold "Open Forum" October 17th at 4:30pm.  The next BQC meeting is November 13th and 6:30 pm.  

 

Recreation:  Plans are being made to build a pavilion in June 2002.

 

Correspondence:  A letter was received from K. Nyberg regarding the Peterson road.  A group meeting will be set up soon to resolve the question the gate and ownership of the road.  A letter was received from Vitela Johnson asking for an affidavit of publication of city ordinances published in March 1991.  A letter from Rodney Johnson was received concerning the cities letter to Vitela Johnson requesting payment of the utility bill which was not paid by her tenant.  All council members received a copy of the letter and it was read aloud at the meeting.  

 

Old Business:  Brian reported on the utility department jobs and discharge will be soon.  Jerry reported that he sent a pump in for repair to Waldor pump.  Frank reported that the rink hydrant has been repaired.  Vitela Johnson attended to protest the decision of the city council in which the council requested payment of the water bill.  After discussion, Vitela indicated that she would prefer to have the county  judge rule on this matter.  A league of Minnesota Cities Attorney was contacted and his response was for the city officials to follow the city ordinances. Landowners are responsible for collecting payments that have not been paid by tenants. The landowner is responsible.

 

New Business:  LMC resolution was received concerning "Be Alert, Be Aware" at this crisis time.  

 

A motion by Ellen, seconded by Doug to renew the liquor license for Chris Kruger at the same rate as last year.  Approved 4-0.  

 

A motion to adjourn by Becky, seconded by Ellen.   Approved.  Meeting adjourned.
