Warba City Council Meeting Minutes
July 16, 2001
The July 16, 2001 council meeting was called to order by Mayor Kelly McCauley.
Present, Ellen Coffel, Doug Mericle, Kelly McCauley, Becky McCauley, Darlene Adolfs, Jerry Carey. Absent: Lois Holmes. Guests: Joey Ranta, Don Stauber, Mrs Peterson, from Shallow Sand Lake Assoc, Brian Borgman and Frank Fairchild.
Minutes of the June meeting were read. A motion by Ellen to accept the report, seconded by Becky - Approved.
Treasures report was presented and accepted with a motion by Becky McCauley, seconded by Darlene Adolfs.
The balance due Watertower paint and repair of 3873.96 will be paid in full.
A motion by Kelly, seconded by Darlene to purchase a $1100.00 CD from funds from the Long Term C. Center fund.
Approved. A motion by Ellen, seconded by Becky to pay bills. Joey Ranta, a representative from Shallow Sand Lake spoke to the council regarding starting a joint venture to do a feasibility study about the possibility of lake homeowners connecting to the Warba sewer system.
Ellen Coffel council person, was appointed to serve on the board. Jim Hietala, a Warba resident, will also attend the meetings.
The board will investigate getting grants, upgrading the sewer system if necessary, what benefits will it be for City of Warba and for lake homeowners.
Committee Reports:
Community Center: Darlene will get one more estimate for our bulletin board and buy one more fan.
Kelly will locate a cement grinder for the front step that has risen. A motion by Becky, seconded by Darlene to remove the dogwood bushes at the community center and replace with a lower bush. Approved.
Rec: The DNR grant was denied. Hydrant will be repaired.
Cemetery: Becky reported a break-in to the storage building, gas and cans were taken, Insurance for $1,000 on the building, $1000 for contents will be added.
BQC: National night out is planned for Aug 7, 2001.
Correspondence: A report was received from the Census bureau.
Pre-buy from CAP for $1.11 per gal. was accepted.
Old business: Six late water payments were sent out, 3 have paid by now.
A motion by Doug seconded by Becky to add 10% penalty for bills paid more than 30 days late.
Approved.
Resolution for Ken was tabled.
Kelly is working on installing a stop sign at the corner behind the Leather Shop.
One bid for 2800 was received for the grader. Council is considering purchasing a Bobcat after selling the grader.
Jerry reported on weed and grass spraying. Kelly reported on the road work and gate put on the minimum maintance road which leads to
Mr. T. Petersons property. The cities min. maintenance sign was removed.
New Business: It was approved that only Ken and Jerry purchase gas at the Shallow
Lake Store and all receipts should be turned into the clerk. Set levy at August meeting.
Additional: Becky reported on information received from Ralph, from Habitat from Humanity regarding the councils interest in building Habitat homes in this area. This was tabled for later.
Ellen made a motion to approve Jerry Carey as Civil Defense director. Seconded by Doug. Approved.
It was reported that Mark Carlson's garage apron extends into the alley-behind his home.
Kelly reported that some class 5 gravel will be put on streets and alleys.
Ellen reported that a tree in her yard could be limbed higher or removed.
Hearing no further business the meeting was adjourned with a motion by Becky, seconded by Doug.
